Dear Parents and Students, 5-26-09
This week we will review synonyms and antonyms by playing memory games. In phonics we will review all of the phonics rules and sounds we have learned with a focus on the /oo/ sound and soft c and g. We will write sentences using our spelling words and use letter cards to practice them. The test is on Friday. We will work on typing our stories, and we will start to put our books together and illustrate them. We will read a poem called “Five Little Mice” and search in the poem for rhyming words, verbs, and words with short and long vowel sounds. We will practice reading orally in small groups. We will read A Country Far Away and write about how we are alike and different from African children.
In math we will review counting money and take our money test. In social studies we will continue learning about Africa. In science we will read Energy and determine what energy is and where we get energy.
The children’s librarian from the Harrison branch will visit on Thursday to read to the class and explain the summer reading program. Field Day is on Friday. The primary grades will go outside for some fun activities after lunch. You are welcome to come and watch the fun.
For those of you who have summer birthdays, if you would like to send in birthday treats, we will celebrate June birthdays on Wednesday, June 3, July birthdays on Thursday, June 4, and August birthdays on Friday, June 5.
A special thank you goes out to Mrs. Kinnett, Mrs. Holton, and my daughter, Jenny, for helping the children tie-dye their Field Day shirts.
