Earth Kids News May 2009 It has been a fantastic year for the Earth Kids Club. Thank you to the Earth Kids’ parents, teachers, administrators, and the PTA who have been so supportive all year. Special thanks go to the parents who helped with the April planting. The children, leaders and parents planted 300 plus plants. As the tulips and pansies die down the annuals will fill in and look beautiful. Our recycling program is in full swing, kudos to Monica Wilson, Shameika Cone, April Spruiell, and Jamie Smith for leading the recycle brigade. As of May 1st, Monica reports that we have 1,100 Capri Sun packets ready to be mailed in for redemption at $0.02 a packet. A big thank you also goes to the teachers and students at Dare who are recycling in their classrooms. Our raised bed garden looks great. Mrs. Helpinstill planned, raised funds, and planted the gardens. Mrs. Horton assisted classes with planting. Things are growing and sprouting. Please take time to walk behind the upper grade wing and see the raised beds. In the good news department, we proudly note that the Earth Kids Club has been the recipient of several awards. They are as follows: *A $100.00 grant for our learning garden from Langley Federal Credit Union *A $100.00 Environmental award from the Williamsburg Area Business Association * A $2000.00 Lowes’ Outdoor Education award
