Dear Parents and Students, Here is an update for you about German cultural events in our area within the next month. - On Friday, February 1 there will be an organ concert at Sharon United Methodist Church presented by a German organist from Wiesbaden, Germany. The concert will begin at 8:00 p.m. - The Alemannia Club (German Club) meets the first Thursday of every month at the Waldhorn Restaurant, 7:00 p.m. They try to provide a program that would interest native German speakers as well as English speaking Charlotteans. - Feb. 2, 3 The Strauss opera, Rosenkavalier, will be performed at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center, in German. This is one of my favorite operas, besides the Magic Flute. It is, however, very long. - German Church services are held at St. Mark's Lutheran Church on Queens Road. There will be a service, with communion, on Sunday, Feb. 3 at 5:00 p.m. Special services are also being planned for March. - The Austrian Cultural Society will have a Fasching Ball on Saturday, Feb. 9 from 6:00 p.m. to midnight at the ballroom at Lowe's Motorspeedway (for adults). Remember - There will be a Fasching party for the fifth graders on Fasching or Mardi Gras at Bruns on Tuesday, February 12 (please check the Heartbeat for time). This is not a free for all, but their first DANCE! Students who exhibit inappropriate behavior will not be allowed to attend, or if present, may be asked to leave the party if the behavior is inappropriate for the setting. It is a uniform day. The students may change into their costumes at lunch. Guns, weapons, witch, ghoul costumes are not permitted.
