Mrs. Huebner- 4A Week of December 21-22 There is a 2-hour delayed opening on Monday, which is a Red and Green Spirit Day for $1. Students will be making gingerbread houses with Parent Volunteers from 10:30-11:15 in the classroom. Please make sure all supplies have been sent, as some students were missing pint cartons and frosting on Friday. We will have the Holiday Breakfast on Tuesday, after the Grade 8 Nativity at 10. Thank you to those who are sending food and supplies. In Literacy Place last week, students read two chapters in Sarah, Plain and Tall, a work of historical fiction by Patricia MacLachlan. We will try to read the other five chapters before the holiday break. In January, our first novel study will be Caleb's Story, one of the sequels. In Math, students will take a timed multiplication test on facts for 11 and 12 on Monday. They will be given three minutes to complete the 50 problems. Please continue to help your child study with flash cards and computer games. Students should keep their multiplication table through the twelves in their homework folders to practice. We will review Chapter 11 on Monday for the Tuesday test. In Science, students will complete Lesson 2 in Chapter 4 about ecosystems. The chapter test will not be until Friday, January 8. A study guide was sent home last Friday. If I don't see you at school to say it personally, may you all enjoy a Merry Christmas with your families! Tests this week: Monday: Timed multiplication facts for 11s and 12s Tuesday: Math Chapter 11 ******************************************************************** Classroom Policies and Procedures Mrs. Huebner and Mrs. Watson Fourth Grade 2009-2010 Class Rules Students are expected to be respectful at all times. This applies to hallways, bathrooms, lunchroom and playground. Students should treat others as they would like to be treated. Infractions will result in lost time from recess, and contact with parents for repeat offenses. Assignments Each student is expected to use the homework planner provided by the school to keep track of daily homework, tests and projects. If a student comes to school with homework that has not been done, recess time will be used to complete the work. Extenuating circumstances that prevent a student from completing homework should be explained in a note from home. Homework completion grades will be given in Math, English, Social Studies, and Science. When a student is absent, work will be sent to the bench outside the office to be picked up by a parent or other authorized person at the end of the day. Make-up work after an absence should be completed within a reasonable time Assessments Tests will be announced in class, written on homework boards to be copied in planners, and posted on class web pages. Students will be given sufficient time to study. Completed tests will be sent home each Wednesday and should be signed and returned the next day. Handwriting All work is to be done in pencil in the student’s best cursive. There may be requests to replenish supplies, such as pencils, during the year. Parent Volunteer Program/Room Mothers Each month we invite interested parents to spend some time with the fourth grade students. During this time you and the students will participate in some enrichment activity related to the curriculum. For example, you might assist a group of students with a sensory writing activity or by playing a math game. We will provide materials and instructions when you arrive at school. Fourth grade celebrations are limited to Halloween and Valentine cupcakes at lunch and the Christmas Breakfast. Quia The Quia web page is updated weekly, usually on Sunday. It is meant to give you a snapshot of the material being covered during the week. We will post dates for tests, book reports and projects, but not nightly homework assignments.
