Dear Kindergarten Parents 2002-2003, Welcome to the Port Huron Area School District. Two years ago the PHASD implemented one of the most exciting programs that I have seen in my 28 years of teaching young children. They added the position of Technology Itinerant into each of the 13 elementary buildings. I work at Keewahdin MWTH and Harrison on Tuesday. I service all grade levels. Kindergarten this year has Technology every other week for 45 minutes, and hopefully that plan will continue next year. I am always looking for volunteers--especially at the beginning when so many have never used a computer. When your child reaches First Grade through 5th grades, they will come to the Tech Lab once a week for 45 minutes. This year in Kindergarten we have used many programs and websites that help your child become familar with a computer. Most also reinforce the skills being taught in the classroom--sounds of letters, letter identification and numbers. Being a lower education teacher most of my career, I know what they need to practice. We search the Internet from a Web site that I have made and inserted links that go along with their classroom curriculum. Many of these links that will be very helpful to help prepare your child for their upcoming venture into the public schools. There is also lots of good information for parents. Just like I tell the kids, most of this is free--and it's amazing what is out there. Just watch the advertisements--the sites are free, even if we don't buy anything. Click CTRL & W to get rid of pop-up windows. Looking forward to seeing some of you in the Fall. I will send the Kindergarten Tech schedule home the first day of school, or if possible in your Kindergarten confirmation letter. I REALLY CAN USE ALL THE HELP I CAN GET FOR THE FIRST MONTH OR SO--YOU ARE WELCOME ALL YEAR, BUT THAT IS WHEN IT IS MOST IMPORTANT. COMPUTER KNOWLEDGE IS NOT NECESSARY-I CAN TEACH ADULTS AS WELL AS KIDS, THE COMPUTER SKILLS ARE BASICALLY THE SAME, WHAT WE DO WITH THEM IS WHAT IS DIFFERENT. Mrs. Dawn Licht (pronounced Light)
