Course Description
Learning a foreign language is a long term endeavor. The ultimate success of using the foreign language in a meaningful way is intrinsically tied to one’s individual motivation toward the subject matter. My goal is to provide each of my students a positive learning environment and to help all students succeed academically. This is not a REGENTS course. It is a course that presupposes that the level of proficiency is at least at checkpoint B with a good knowledge of the simple tenses: present, preterit, imperfect, future and conditional. The first quarter will review and assess each student’s proficiency level so that progress can be achieved during the 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters.

Materials
I take materials from a variety of sources. In order to provide opportunities for skill practicing it is imperative that students have access to authentic realia within the classroom and beyond to experience the language and get the practice necessary to truly progress. Students will be responsible to do on-line review from home or after school in the library. Students will be required to maintain a place for notes and a folder for handouts, in addition each student needs a two inch BINDER with plastic inserts for assignments, journals, word study and mini-projects. This will be your PORTFOLIO BOOK which evidences not only progress but effort. It will be a key aspect of your grade.

Grading Policy
My goal is that every student succeeds and I want each to improve on his/her past performance. The stress is always on excellence not perfection. If you do your best, meet the course requirements, are present and participate, you cannot fail. If you cut you have a zero averaged into your grade. Cutting will fail you.
