This is a site for students in Room 13 to learn about dolphins to prepare for our upcoming field trip to see the dolphins at the Mirage Hotel.

Students--
Your job is to be an oceanographer and study facts and information about the dolphin.  Good luck and have fun!  You have four missions to complete.

Mission 1:  What are some of the dolphin's body parts?  What are their purposes?  Search the dolphin websites below to find out.

*Take the "Body Part Quiz" below to show me what you know!
*Draw a diagram of a dolphin in your Science Notebook.

Mission 2:  As an oceanographer you need to know vocabulary about the dolphin.  Find out what these words mean:

*fluke
*dorsal fin
*melon
*echolocation
*flipper
*blowhole
*calf
*pod
*mammal
Play the "Dolphin Vocabulary" games.

Mission 3:  Find out the answers to these questions by looking at the websites below and write the answers in your Science Notebook.

*Is a dolphin a mammal?
*What is a mammal?  List three things that describe a mammal.
*Does a dolphin lay eggs or give birth to live babies?
*Where can dolphins be found?
*What are the dolphin's enemies?

Mission 4:   Go on a field trip to the Mirage to study live dolphins!  Write about what you have learned in your Science Notebook.  Write a friendly letter to your tour guide thanking him/her for the trip.
