YOU are responsible for helping to create an atmosphere that assists in the learning of others. 3. Physics students will need to purchase a scientific calculator, a ruler, and graph paper. Grading Policy A = 90 - 100 % B = 80 - 89 % C = 70 - 79 % D = 60 - 69 % F = 0 - 60 % *For regular classes: tests account for 50% of your grade and daily work accounts for 50%. * For honors classes: tests account for 60% of your grade and daily work accounts for 40%. * Daily work includes homework, quizzes, labs, and all other assignments. * Late work is not accepted in honor level classes. In regular level classes late work may be turned in for half credit. * Copying will not be tolerated. All parties involved will receive zeros for that assignment. Extra credit Each student may turn in 2 current event articles per nine weeks for 10 points each. There will also be numerous other opportunities for extra credit throughout the year including activities and questions posted on this web site. Class Rules 1. Students must always bring textbook, notebook, paper, and pencil or pen to class EACH day unless otherwise instructed. 2. Students must be in their OWN SEAT when the tardy bell rings. 3. Raise hand to obtain permission to speak when the teacher is giving an assignment or speaking to the class. 4. Remain in seat until bell rings. i.e. DO NOT line up at the door. Please check around desk for trash at the end of the period. 5. Two hall passes per nine weeks for EMERGENCY use only. 6. It is the STUDENTS RESPONSIBILITY to get any make up work, assignments, or notes missed. All make up work must be turned in within the same number of days as the other students had upon your return. 7. Your behavior should not in any way be disruptive to the class. Please show respect and consideration for everyone. 8. BE ON TASK AT ALL TIMES. Violations will result in: 1st time - warning (name on board). 2nd time - check by name, half hour detention, and a phone call to your parents. 3rd time - student discipline referral. Severe clause: any severe misconduct will result in an immediate discipline referral. Examples include fighting, openly defiant or disrespectful to teacher or others, severe destructiveness or dissruptiveness. Description: This course provides opportunities for the student to develop comprehensive concepts basic to the earth, its materials, processes, history, and environment in space. The content includes, but is not limited to, theories for the formation of the universe and solar system, life cycle of stars, astronomy, U.S. space program, the nature of matter and atomic structure, mineral identification, rocks and the rock cycle, the earth’s interior, land formation, plate tectonics, formation of rivers and streams, erosion, wind, water, and weathering, glaciers, oceanography, the earth’s atmosphere and weather, as well as the earth’s energy resources. Laboratory investigations of selected topics in the content which also include the use of the scientific method, measurement, laboratory apparatus and safety are an integral part of the course.
