Week of May 21 - 25

STATE PROJECTS WERE DUE LAST WEEK, but I'll take them this week

This is the easiest assignment of the year.  Talk to me if you have any questions...

We're working on hallways behavior throughout the entire school.  Most of the 5th graders get it, but a quick conversation with your kid would help.  We know its boring, but we need kids to walk single file and to make as little noise as possible.  The hallways get crowded with kids of all ages so the thinner our line is, the easier it is.  We also walk by a lot of classrooms and offices, so our noise level needs to be respectful.  THANKS

SCIENCE FAIR:  June 8.  Any questions, contact Davis or myself.  I'm checking journals every Monday.

THURSDAY, MAY 24

PARENTS:  If you read this website, which I hope you all do, I am needing your help.  The behavior has been very challenging.  It's been challenging in the hallway, library, recess, and even while I am trying to teach.  Several kids are showing inappropriate behavior, disrespect towards others  and themselves.  Please have a conversation with your child that reinforces making good choices.  I want the year to end well, and constantly having to discipline children is starting to hurt.  If you have any questions/comments, please contact me.

THANKS

MATH:  Lots of algebra, check their journals daily.

READING:  AXIS, SCIENCE FAIR, and we'll read a story and learn some vocab, it'll be in their journals.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 23

MATH:  a little bit of algebra, they'll have something to teach you tonight, and then we will watch a Jane Goodall movie.  Why?  Why not?

READING:  I'll be working with the kids on their science fair projects during reading, and we'll start the next Brian book.  We'll also keep touching on the Axis.

The days have been a little unpredictable.  What I write here isn't always what happens.  So, check in with your kids.

TUESDAY, May 22

MATH:  we'll be introducing very little new material over the rest of the year.  We've already hit all the standards, so we'll be going over old stuff.
Today we'll be using factors and multiples for all kinds of math tasks, like simplifying fractions and finding common denominators.

SS:  Yup, I'll be teaching a tad bit of SS, really I'll just be working with kids to help them get their CBAs turned in on time.  CHECK OUT DAVIS' PAGE, it has all the info on it..   McLANE -> STAFF -> DAVIS

SCIENCE:  Science fair prep, and the earth's axis

WOBP

MONDAY, May 21

MATH:  FRACTIONS If you've noticed, we're spending the rest of the year going over old concepts.  We've already hit all the 5th grade standards before the MSP, so now we get to just go over everything, just to make sure every kid gets it before middle school.

SCIENCE:  Yup, I'll be teaching a little science this week.  SCIENCE FAIR: All 5th graders need to show me their science fair journals...
We'll also be working on some health and nutrition.

If we have time today... WOBP and AXIS
