Ms. Hurley is currently reading...
This book was recommended to me by TL. Greg is twelve years old and fascinated by money. He is always looking for new ways to make money because he plans on being rich someday. His latest scheme is to sell comic books at his school that he makes himself. Will this be a successful business for him, or will it get him into terrible trouble?
Book Recommendations:
This book was recommended to me at a book conference I attended on young adult literature back in the fall. Fifteen year old Laurel wakes up one morning to find a bump on her back. Over the next couple of days, the bump turns into a set of wings! Laurel knew she was adopted, and she was always different from her peers. Now Laurel has new information to struggle with. Could Laurel be a fairy? If you are a Twilight fan, this is the book for you!
This book was recommended to me by JK. This dark story begins when Thomas wakes up in the middle of maze. The Gladers, the other residents of the maze, and Thomas must solve the confusing puzzle of the maze before the Creators destroy it. When Thomas survives a night in the maze with the Grievers and becomes a Runner, things is the maze start to change. What are the Creators of the maze up to? Can the Gladers survive these mind games?
This book was recommended to me by TL. Ida B has enjoyed being homeschooled and living through her books. But one day, her parents make the decision to send her back to school. Can Ida B survive school? Can she learn to enjoy life beyond her books?
This book was recommended to me by MM. It is about two 11 year olds, Amanda and Leo, who share the same birthday. However, their 11th birthday keeps repeating itself over and over again. What would you do if it was your birthday every single day? Are they stuck turning 11 forever?
This book was recommended to me by TL. If you are a fan of The Diary of a Wimpy Kid, this is the book for you. This graphic novel book talks about a young middle school student who is struggling to fit in. In an effort to make this happen, he decides he will be the first student to break every single rule in the school's code of conduct. Will he succeed? Or will his rule breaking trouble catch up with him?
This book was recommended to me by GF. It as about a group of girls who go to the Gallagher Academy for Exceptionally Bright Girls. This school is unlike one you would have ever gone to because this is a school for spies. Classes consist of Covert Ops, Stealth Skills, and Operations/Research. Get ready to spy!
Ms. Hurley recommends "Kat, Incorrigble". This is probably one of the best books that I have read in a while! This was recommended to me at a young adult book conference that I went to recently. The heroine, Kat, is a young girl with magical powers. Set in a gothic background, Kat must save her sister from marrying Sir Neville, an evil wizard, who is planning on using the family's power for chaos. Kat is a funny character who is humorous in her attempts to save her family.
AT recommends "The Red Pyramid". This book is about the Kane family. Dr. Kane is a famous Egyptologist, who accidentally summons the gods of Ancient Egypt. The gods banish Dr. Kane to another world, and it is up to his two children, Sadie and Carter, to save him. This book is by the same author as "Lightening Thief".
What if you were genetically altered so you could fly? That is exactly what happened to Maximum Ride. She is the oldest in the flock of six flying humans. They don't go to school. They don't have parents. They are running from people for reasons they don't understand. This book is currently being made into a movie!
MM recommends "Gregor the Overlander". The book is written by Suzanne Collins, the same author who wrote "The Hunger Games". Gregor, the main character, falls into the Underland. He wants to go home, but there is a strange prophecy about him that he must fulfill first.
DM recommends "The Ranger's Apprentice: Book 1". It reminds me a little bit of "The Giver". The main character, Will, is chosen to be an apprentice of the Rangers (an elite group of soliders in his kingdom). This book is part of a series, so if you really like the first one, there are many more to come!
