MEET THE TEACHER: MR. PAULSON
Greetings! I am Mr. Paulson. I have been teaching at Emerson for the last 12 years. In that time I have taught Math, Science, Reading and Study Skills. I have had the opportunity to teach preschool, 5th,6th,7th,8th and 10th grade. It is really a joy to teach 8th graders. They are young enough to find wonder in discovering new ideas, yet old enough to take responsibility for some of their learning. It is my goal to help them take pride in their work and always give their best effort.
MY PHILOSOPHY OF LEARNING:
It is important for young men and women to learn how to learn. Therefore, we will discuss many study skills to help in the learning process. Another area we will practice is working as a group. For example, I may ask a student to become an expert in a topic and then have the student report to the entire class. Our class will complete many hands on activities, labs, projects etc.
The biggest problem we have in the junior high is communication. Please write notes in your child's agenda, contact me by note, e-mail or by telephone. I can be of great help.
YOUR CHILD'S GRADE
Not all the students can get an A in science. But I have learned over the years that two factors greatly affect how well a child will do in class. First, is class organization. Students must copy the assignments into their agenda book and mark when it was completed. Secondly, both teacher and parents need to recognize and encourage students in their efforts. Every Friday, I will send good notes home. You can also request a daily or weekly progress report. I will write down missing work and the current grade. Zeros really affect your students grade. If a student is missing a packet of work, or fails the packet, the student will be given a detention to make up the work.
