Absences
If your child misses school for any reason, you must send a note with him/her on the day he/she returns to school stating the reason for the absence. This is a school board policy.
Backpacks
Please provide your child with a backpack or book bag. Avoid getting the backpack with wheels, since it won't fit in your child's cubby.
Birthdays
You are welcome to bring cupcakes or a special snack on or near your child’s birthday. This will be shared at our lunchtime. Please let me know a few days in advance if you plan to send something in and when you plan to send it in.
Bus Policy & Dismissal
I will put your child on his/her assigned bus each day at dismissal time unless I receive a note from you with other directions. If you realize during the day that you have forgotten to send a note you must call the school office at 221-0949. Children can get messages confused so I will not change going home plans without a note from home. A note is necessary if there is any change in your child’s transportation plans.
Centers
Your child will be participating in “centers” for art (Ms. Baker), music (Mr. Kriner ), library (Mrs. Bell), physical education (Mr. Goggin), and computer lab (Mrs. Kelly). They will visit a different center each day for 45 minutes.
Lunch
Children may bring their own lunch or buy the school lunch. I ask that you not send candy or soda in your child’s lunch box. If your child is buying lunch from the cafeteria, you may pay by the week (send money or check in on Mondays). Checks can be made payable to Clara Byrd Baker.
Medication
If your child ever needs to take medicine(prescription or over-the-counter), you are required to bring the medicine in its original container with the prescribed dosage and method of administration clearly indicated to school and give it to the school nurse. Children are not allowed to bring any medication (not even cough drops) to school on their own.
Money
Please, put your child’s money in a sealed envelope or zip-lock baggie and write down their name and for what the money is to be used.
Newsletter
I will send home a monthly newsletter and a monthly homework calendar for recording the nights your child read for at least 20 minutes and worked on math strategies for speed and accuracy for facts to 20. The newsletter will let you know what we are working on and inform you of any important dates, events, etc. Please look for it. If you have questions about what you read, send me a note or email me at espositob@wjcc.k12.va.us.
Show-and-Tell
We will not have show-and-tell. If your child has something that relates to our theme or something we are talking or learning about, they can bring it in to show, but they have to write at least a few sentences about it. You do not need to check with me first unless it is alive! School board policy states that weapons or look-alikes are, of course, prohibited from school property. Please be aware that this includes toy guns, knives and even water pistols.
