My Teaching Philosophy

Parent communication is extremely important. I send home a monthly calendar and newsletter and keep my webpage current with information about what’s going on in the classroom, long term homework assignments, and upcoming events and activities. This makes it easier for parents to be able to discuss with their child what they are learning about in school. Parents can email me with questions about their concerns.

My room is a library with hundreds of books in it for the children to select from. Each night, every student should be reading a leveled book selected from my room, or a book from the school library. He or she may also choose to read a book from home. Reading and writing are vitally important and one of the most important things parents can do is make sure that their child reads nightly.

My students will be working on various projects this year. I am creating games that they can play to help practice, using the information we learn in the various subject areas. They will be linked to our SOL requirements and will be posted on my webpage so they can play at home with their parents as well. My goal is to make learning fun.
