French III
Showcase Portfolio Project
Fall 2005
A portfolio is a purposeful collection of student work that tells the story of a student’s efforts, progress or achievement. In this portfolio you will select and showcase your best works and accomplishments in this course.
1. PRODUCE
You will write and speak for a variety of purposes.
You will save and date all work.
2. COLLECT
You will keep on-going work in your folders.
3. SELECT
You will select written and oral pieces
These pieces will show your writing growth, with chances to revisit your works and revise them.
Weekly Journals
Include journal in portfolio.
Write a reflection paper on your journal.
In this paper you should:
--comment on your writing progress throughout the semester.
--select a favorite entry and polish it (i.e. rewrite it with corrections).
This, the comment and entry rewrite together, should be typed and double-spaced, approximately 1 - 2 pages in length.
Compositions
Include all compositions with your portfolio
Select two that you will polish and type. Be sure to make corrections!
Review/critique of (choose one):
Movie (Cyrano de Bergerac or Trois Hommes et un Couffin) or novel (Aventure à Paris)
Must be: approximately 1 page, typed, double-spaced and in French.
Performance Assessment: Paris
Include a typed copy of your dialog.
Reflection on Speaking
Write a reflection on the progress of your speaking ability throughout the semester. Be sure to consider your speaking proficiency portions of tests, (you may borrow your audio cassette -- remember to return it!) your ability to speak and respond to textbook activities, and your ability to participate in impromptu conversations. This paper should be approximately one page, typed, double-spaced. In this reflection, also include a comment on your listening ability. Include other factors, which may have influences your abilities. Have you had the opportunity to use your French in addition to class work? Possibilities include the Cholet Exchange, a trip to a French-speaking region, or simply talking to somebody in French, whether they be a native francophone, a classmate, a stranger, etc.
Test Reflection
Select any test from Discovering French Blanc! from this semester. You will compose a paper (approximately one page, typed, double-spaced) in which you discuss how well you did on this test, (be sure to comment on each section -- Listening, Speaking Proficiency, Writing Proficiency, Reading Comprehension). Assess what was easy and/or difficult about the test, what you did to help you do as well as you did, and what, if anything, you could have done to improve your performance.
General notes
