Summer, 2001

Dear FJH Cheerleaders,

Just wanted to remind you that you'll be receiving a letter in a week or two explaining Cheer Camp.  Until then, have a great summer and practice, practice, practice!!!  We'll see you on July 30 at 9:00am sharp!

FJH CHANTS...

1)  Fire it up (X X), Friendswood!

2)  Blue, White, Mustangs, Let's Fight!

3)  Hey!  Hey!  Here we go!  F...J...H!!!

4)  Move it down that line big blue - move it down that line!

5)  Go! Go!  Come on 'Stangs, let's go!

6)  Go!  Big Blue, Let's Go!  Fight!  Big Blue, Let's Fight!  Win!  Big Blue, Let's Win!  Go!  Fight!  Win!

7)  Who?!  Who are we?  F J H! (Just to let you know, the motions for this chant have been changed and we'll learn them at camp!)

8)  Yell out your colors Mustangs!  Blue and White!

COACH GRAY'S TOP TEN TECHNIQUE TIPS :
1)  Keep your thumbs tucked in!
2)  Keep your wrists HIDDEN from the audience!
3)  Make sure Fred is next to your ear when he should be!
4)  Remember to keep your feet more than shoulder's width apart when cheering.  It gives a much stronger appearance than just standing there.  And for those of you that have been in ballet forever, you are NOT supposed to be in 2nd position - it's a jazz second with your toes pointed straight ahead.
5)  Keep your arms straight - almost LOCKED into position!
6)  When you lunge, keep your back leg straight.  Don't bend both knees.  Bend only the knee that is pointed in the direction in which you are lunging.
7)  Do not pop your hips out.  When you do that, it gives the impression that you're waiting in line instead of actually cheering!  Keep your hips squared to the front!
8)  Yell deep, not high.  That means to use your diaphragm (the muscle that helps you breathe) instead of your throat.  You'll find that your voice will actually be louder this way.  If you yell correctly, you'll never lose your voice!
9)  Don't be afraid to let your personality shine through!  Using good facial expressions add a lot to even the easiest cheer or chant!
10) Last, and really REALLY important - SMILE!  Have fun out there!

E-mail me if you have any questions!  And don't forget about Cheer Camp the first week in August!  See ya then!
