This page is designed to help students enhance and review skills for the 8th grade writing SOL. All activities and strategies are additions to in-class materials and teaching.

The 2009 Writing SOLs will be Spring 2009:

* - Multiple choice - TBD
* - Direct writing prompt - TBD


For best results, students should get a good night's sleep, eat a good breakfast, and come to school ready to perform! All students must be to school before first bell the morning of the test or they will be held and rescheduled for make-up testing.

Use this gameplan:

Start Here: Writing Test - Strategies and Breakdowns Use this document to review the breakdowns of the test and really know what you will be seeing on the SOL.


First, concentrate on the multiple choice test:
  1. Take the released tests on the links below. Practice not only makes perfect but it gives confidence!
  2. Review the areas of weakness using the GRAMMAR BLASTS! or other grammar links below.
  3. Review the powerpoints covered in class to see those samples one more time!

    Sentence Fragment Refresher

    Avoid RUN-ON Sentences...

Then, focus on writing that essay!

- Prepare for that direct writing prompt!
