get at least an 80% on each activity, and I will give them 5 points on the final for each chapter's completed activity. THis way I know you are studying and prepared for the final, so you will get a higher grade on the final, and then you'll get extra points for your hard work. Print out a summary of the results, and either give me or email me a copy of them.

BOTH CLASSES: Be looking for recipes from a francophone country to prepare and share on Friday. It must be a recipe that you prepare yourself, and you must bring the recipe to share, telling what country it is from. Be adventurous!

French I: First we did a handout about partitive articles vs. indefinite articles, and how to determine which one to use. Basically if we're talking about something that is whole, we use the indefinite article. I bought a cake. J'ai acheté un gateau. ( UN- indefinite article.)
Je veux que ma mère me donne une montre pour mon anniversaire. I want my mother to give me A watch for my birthday.

If however, we talking about a part of something, not the whole thing, we use the partitive article, DU, de LA, DE l' THe partitive and the indefinite articles all change to DE after a negative expression.

Afterwards, we watched the Chapter Opener about the biggest city in the Ivory Coast-- Abijan, and answered some comprehension questions about the video. You can watch this if you click on the video tab in the online book. It is the Chapter Opener for Chapter 8. See you tomorrow.

French IY Took a quiz on conjugation of ER verbs, then learned about how to say J'ai Faim, J"ai Soif, Je voudrais.... un sandwich au jambon, un sandwich au fromage, une limonade, un jus de pomme, labeling a handout with illustrations of the different foods and drinks.

We also learned how to say HOW ABOUT doing something, using the pronoun ON, and then reviewed how to agree to a suggestion, or how to turn a suggestion down.

Took Chapter 4 Test in class. You should have completed the Ma Famille Handout. You were also given a packet which included a rubric for the MA FAMILLE project which will be due on Friday, when you will also take a test for Chapter 7. You should work to complete as many of the pages in the packet as you can, which, some of you will notice, are repeats of pages you have already done. It is simply a way in which you will have all the material necessary to be successful on the MA FAMILLE project.

THe MA FAMILLE project can be either on a poster, or submitted as a powerpoint. You must describe at least 8 people. As I mentioned in class, the people you describe as your family members can be either real or imaginary.

Reviewed much of what we learned so far this year using the DVD Tutor the first half of class, after watching the Mise En Train with subtitles. Then we spent the last half of class in the language lab finishing up the PowerPoints you started yesterday.

MERCREDI, le 30 janvier

FRENCH ONE BLOCK Reviewed the expressions one uses to talk about what he likes or doesn't like, then reviewed the vocabulary for the nouns that you are learning in this part of the chapter. Afterwards, you took a quick quiz on the deuxieme etape.
Lastly, you went into the language lab, and created PowerPoints using the vocabulary for expressing preferences from the deuxieme etape, and the the vocabulary from page 31 of the troisieme etape. We will return to the language lab tomorrow, and add some more sentences, but this time talking about what our friends like. A demain.

FRENCH 1-B After presenting your memorized restaurant conversations- Stanley, Emily, Uriel and Stephanie-- be prepared to present first thing tomorrow.
Les Devoirs: Review for a QUIZ tomorrow by doing the exercises in Grammaire Supplementaire, exercises 3-6, pages 161=162.

DOn't forget that I told you that your answers should be in complete sentences! And, yes, I realize that means you'll have to copy down that whole dialogue on page 162. It will help you learn to spell all the expressions and vocabulary from the deuxieme etape.

FRENCH ONE BLOCK

Started out labeling a hanout with the names of the vocabulary we are learning in this etape. Then we did a Grammar Tutor handout about definite articles, identifying whether the nouns were masculine, feminine, singular or plural. Then you were to do the activities on pages 3,4 and 5 of your TPG. I took a grade for this at the end of class, for you had ample time to finish it in the time provided, if however, you did not complete it, you can show me your completed work tomorrow for credit.
I highly recommend you study the vocabulary, using the flashcards in the activities below for CHapter One, Deuxième Etape. Expect a quick quiz tomorrow.

French IB

You worked together to create restaurant conversations, which you must memorize and present tomorrow in class. THe conversation must contain ALL of the expressions on 151, and of course, since you're talking about things you are going to order and eat or drink, should contain some food and drink vocabulary. FRENCH IB: Learned about the verb prendre, and how it is one of several verbs in French that mean TO TAKE. In this chapter it is used to mean to take, or to have, more specifically when talking about what we are ordering ( COMMANDER) in a restaurant.

FRENCH IY BLOcK We started out the block looking at a French calendar which showed the entire year, and the names of the saints for each day of the year, as well as the dates of the holidays that the french celebrate. We answered questions about the dates of certain FETES, in addition you identified

We learned that french children celebrate two birthdays, the birthday of their saint, after which they are named, and their actual birthday. Afterwards, we practiced again the pronunciation of numbers, and then spent the rest of the class in the lab. I am so proud of you for doing your best with the online activities.

DOn't forget you will take a test ON FRIDAY on the three handouts you have been learning these last two weeks: Greetings, giving and asking names, asking how and telling how someone is, saying good-bye, colors, numbers, days of the week, months of the year, saying where you are from, asking where someone is from, etc.

French IB: Today you should have labeled the pictured handout with the words for the new vocabulary about LES BOISSONS- drinks, and LA NOURRITURE- food. This unit you will be making menus and creating-- and performing-- realistic cafe conversations. Inclass you should have finished activities 1-4 in your TPG, Chapter 5.
LES DEVOIRS: TPG, ACT 6-7, p.37. You will be conjugating a new verb, PRENDRE. Follow the examples in the table when completing the sentences. Think about what you would be trying to say when you use this new verb.

French IY BLOCK Reviewed numbers, colors, how to say and ask what someone's name is, telling and asking someone's age, how to ask and tell where someone is from, and how to describe someone's nationality. Good job with the COLOR by NUMBERS! WHew! Que c'etait difficile!

VENDREDI, le 18 janvier

French 1B: Hope you enjoyed our speaker, M. VandePlanque. Talk about the program with your parents and give them the handout if you are interested in maybe going to France, opening up your home to a french student and beginning hopefully what will be a lifelong friendship, not the mention the road to becoming truly bilingual.
Les Devoirs: You need to start learning the simpler food vocabulary for Chapter 5, so over the weekend, do exercises 1-4 in your TPG, chapter 5.

French ONE BLOCK Finish filling out the third and final vocab list for Unit One, the one that starts with the numbers. In addition, you will need to create a 2008 calendar.

You may do this on paper or on the computer, it's your choice
1.)Label each month.
2.) Remembering that the days of the week start with LUNDI, put the names of the days of the week on each month's page.
3.) So that you will learn not only how to count to thirty, but also how to spell the numbers up to thirty, you will SPELL OUT the dates for every month.
4.) Be as creative as you can, but with each month include an illustration, in which you use colors you associate with that month. You must somehow identify the colors, using the french word for them. You must use all the colors listed on the handout at least once.
Don't wait too late to get started on this. After you do this, you should definitely know how to spell the numbers and the days of the week, don't you think?

JEUDI, le 17 janvier

French IB: Wednesday, we went over the singular conjugations of the verb ETRE, and you were to write 5 sentences for homework using the pronouns JE, TU, Il, ELLE and ON, with their correct forms of ETRE. Today in class we reviewed that, recalling how the spelling of adjectives must agree with the subjects they describe. Also in class we learned how to use the pronoun ON plus (a verb in the third person) to ask How about....?
On fait du ski? How about skiing?
On joue aux cartes? How about playing cards?
Lastly, you learned the meaning of and practiced using ways to turn down suggestions, noticing the similarities between the structures of the different sentences.

French One BLOCK Reviewed numbers up to twenty, practiced their pronunciation, did some math equations with them, spelling the answers using the letters of the French alphabet, after reviewing all the expressions from the Unit One Vocabulary List.
You should be reviewing all these words and expressions at home on a nightly basis.
You worked on pages 1 and 2 in your Travaux Pratiques de Grammaire workbooks.
Then we finished up with some listening comprehension exercises, making sure we could identify if the speakers were saying hello or good-bye, giving the names of a boy or a girl, telling they had a good, OK, or bad time, and determing how old they were.
If you want to listen to these again, go to the online textbook and listen to activities 6,9,12 and 15 in the premiere etape of Chapter 1.
OMGOSH, look at all the stuff you did! You guys are some hard workers!!!
