May News Welcome to the fourth quarter of the year! I can't believe it. Your children have really worked hard to reach their potential. I am so proud of them. All of the children met their AR goal for the 3rd quarter. Wow! Congratulations to the children and parents for supporting this reading inititative. New goals have been sent home. The last day for AR tests is June 5th. Thank you parents and students for the absolutely super job you did with our Famous Character Museum! The children really enjoyed it, and we received tons of compliments from other classes about the children's efforts! I couldn't believe how many children memorized their presentation of their character! Thank you children and parents! Reading We will be reviewing for the SOL tests for the next few weeks, therefore we will not be reading a story from our Literature series. Spelling words will be Math words to help the children review Math vocabulary they will need on the SOL tests. They will be glued in their Spelling folders. Social Studies The children are almost finished with learning the SOLs they will need for 3rd grade. We will be reviewing earlier units to review for the upcoming test. Math We are now studying measurement. They will need to know both standard and metric measurement in length, volume, and mass. Temperature is also included. inches, feet, yards, cm, meters cups, pints, quarts, gallons, liters ounces, pounds, grams, kilograms As a practical application, please point out these measurements throughout the kitchen cabinets and refrigerator. Thank you for sending in your empty containers! The measurement test will be Friday, May 8th. We will spend the rest of May learning about patterns, probability, and statistics. FYI Please check your child's agenda nightly for homework assignments and upcoming tests. Spelling, Math, and AR reading will be assigned almost every night. Upcoming Social Studies tests will also be noted. All work from the week will be sent home on Friday in a large manilla envelope. Please review all papers, sign the envelope, and return it with your child on Monday.
