Classroom/Homework Assignment: If you need assignments, please email me at mfrancisco@wcs.k12.va.us Syllabus/Course Objective: This course is a study of Virginia and United States History from the Age of Exploration to the present. The curriculum for this class has been aligned with the Virginia Standards of Learning. The primary content of this course will be taken from the History and Social Science Standards of Learning Curriculum Framework provided by the Virginia Dept. of Education. Student resources will include the provided textbook, handouts, and notes. Grading: Your grade for each nine weeks will be based on: • Classroom and Homework assignments = 25% • Classroom participation/Notebook Checks = 25% • Quizzes/Tests = 50% Materials needed: Unless otherwise advised, each day you need to bring the following items to class: 1. Your textbook. 2. A three-ring binder or notebook dedicated to U.S. History. 3. A pen or pencil. Major content areas to be covered during the first semester: First Contact to 1789: • Early America: Early Claims, Early Conflicts • Revolution and the New Nation History 1789-1877: • The United States Constitution • Expansion and Reform • The Civil War and Reconstruction Classroom Rules: 1) Treat everyone with Respect. 2) Be in the classroom before the tardy bell rings. 3) All rules and policies of Abingdon High School will be enforced.
