Francophone Countries of Africa Project
Introduction:
You are a young student who is going to visit your distant relatives who still live in Africa, or the relatives of a friend. It's necessary to prepare for the trip by doing research on their country of residence. In addition, you are going to visit some points of interest during your stay in the country. Imagine a conversation with one of your grandparents where you talk about Africa during the '60's, the period of decolonization. Finally, you are going to compare modern-day Africa to Africa during this period.
Task:
You are going to work in groups of 2 or 3 to do this project.
In which country do the relatives live?
Describe this country.
Where is it found? Give concrete facts about the country, for example: form of government, economy, principal cities, geography, etc.
Prepare your trip to this country.
Visit some points of interest in the country and describe them.
Prepare a PowerPoint presentation to show your trip with its facts and points of interest to the other students.
Do research on this country during the period of decolonization and imagine a conversation with the relatives where they explain to you what life was like during that time.
After your trip, write a composition to compare two of the following things:
* Modern Africa vs. Africa during the 1960's
* Life in Africa vs. life in the United States
Procedure:
1) Choose a French-speaking African country with your partner.
2) Do research on the Internet to find information for your trip.
3) Describe modern life in this country. Give information on the following: industry, agriculture, government, currency, population, history with the date when the country gained independence.
4) Create a PowerPoint presentation to explain the points of interest and facts of this country.
5) After your experiences in this country, write a composition to compare one of the following:
(a) modern Africa vs. Africa during decolonisation or
(b) life in Africa vs. life in the United States.
Your composition should be at least one page typed.
