      Herzlich Willkommen to Unified Arts 6!!!!

Dear Unified Arts German Students and Parents of Unified Arts German Students,

For our "FOOD AND FUN IN GERMAN" day, IF you can---and please don't go to a lot of trouble or expense---would you please send one of the following items to school? (see below)

The EDUCATIONAL GOALS of this activity are really very worthwhile
and include the following:
• identifying foods common to German speaking countries;
• comparing and contrasting eating habits of German speaking cultures
with our own;
• reading labels in German;
• trying new things:  foods, continental style of eating, etc.;
• learning and practicing German words and phrases in a contextual situation;
• and HAVING FUN WHILE LEARNING!

This will also be a time to review what we have learned over the past 9 weeks
and to say:   auf Wiedersehen!  I've enjoyed this time with my students and  I hope that Unified Arts German has been a positive experience for your child.  I hope that he/she will consider continuing their study of German language and culture in the 7th and 8th grades and/or at the high school.  If I can answer any questions about these options, don't hesitate to email me:  rogerskc@vestavia.k12.al.us or call me at home:  823-4685.
Sincerely,
Frau Rogers

Guten Appetit!

Here are some suggestions for food items with connections to German speaking countries:  (Don't worry about duplication of items…the kids will eat it all!---
--except maybe the sauerkraut or potato salad…but it's good for them to TRY it!---
  We'll just see what arrives at school and go from there….

Spezi (Sprite and Coke)   with some CUPS
Cheeses (anything German, Swiss, etc.)
PLATES AND NAPKINS
Breads (pumpernickel, rye, Kaiser rolls)
Meats (German bologna, braunschweiger, Bavarian ham, etc.)
*Sausage (Bratwurst, Knockwurst, etc.)
*Sauerkraut - in a can
*Red Cabbage - in a jar
*German Potato Salad - in a can or from Klingler's
Chocolates - Milka, Rittersport, Lindt, ETC!!!!!
Nutella (chocolate/hazelnut spread…kids tried it last week)
Cookies - Hits, Bahlsen, ETC!

…or any family recipes or speciality items you have in the cupboard or run across at the store.  But please, this is very "last minute" and I don’t want you to feel you have to cook or make a special shopping trip tonight!  IF you do go out…Klingler's European Bakery and Deli has a lot of interesting and yummy things…they close early in the evening but open early in the morning too…

The items with an *asterisk could be brought to school in crockpots which I can plug in in my classroom.
