Chapter 1
Bonjour mes amis,
Do you know what these words mean?
Danse
Danses
Dansons
Dansez
Dansent
Can you belive they all mean "dance"?
The reason for this is easy. French verbs change forms once they are conjugated.
This lesson is on regular ER verbs. We will concentrate on regular (as opposed to irregular) verbs ending in ER.
In order to conjugate verbs ending in ER, we must do the following two steps:
1) Drop the ER ending to create a stem
2) Add the endings to the stem as per the following table.
ER
Je e Je Danse I dance, I'm dancing, I do dance
Tu es Tu Danses You dance, You're dancing, You do dance
Il/Elle e Il/Elle Danse S/he dances, S/he is dancing, S/he does dance
Nous ons Nous Dansons We dance, We're dancing, We do dance
Vous ez Vous Dansez You dance, You're dancing, You do dance
Ils/Elles ent Ils/Elles Dansent They dance, They're dancing, They do dance
Once you feel comfortable with your memorization of the stems and endings, try the activities below, by clicking on the highlighted link, to check your knowledge.
