YOU should have handed in your ASTUCES POUR BIEN SE NOURRIR brochures, as well as the vocabulary handouts you should have filled in that would have helped with with the learning of the vocabulary. If you left them at home, or in your car, or in the doghouse, bring em tomorrow. Lastly, you need to illustrate three of the idioms from the handout I gave you in class today. As I explained in class, you will write the idiom in french, and then draw two sketches: One that shows the literal meaning of the French idiom-- ie, if you're drawing : Il A UN CHAT DANS LA GORGE, draw a picture of someone with the silhouette of a cat in their throat.
On the other have of the sheet, you will draw a silhouette of someone with the silhouette of a frog in their throat, since HE'S GOT A FROG IN HIS THROAT is the english equivalent of IL A UN CHAT DANS LA GORGE.

MERCREDI, le 20 fevrier
Make sure you use the exercises listed in the entry below for Friday to help you study for the quiz on the passe compose tomorrow.
You might want to do some of the exercises online at www.go.hrw.com to help you prepare.
You will have to know the meaning of the verbs to help you know which auxilary verb to use in the PC, so if you need to review them, and some of the irregular past participles, do that as well.
=====================================
VENDREDI, le 15 février
Sometimes I wonder why I even input the message on this board. I wish I had a way of finding out the one or two people who check it, and then I would just email them a message instead. It would be interesting to see if the counter stayed at the same number.
(....audible sigh....)
the GOOD NEWS however, is that most of you did MARKEDLY better on your past participle quizzes on Friday. Way to GO!!! A little bit of memorization is a good thing, especially when we're talking about verbs you need to know the meaning of, in order to know what rules to follow to put them into the past tense.
On Friday we did an activity that hopefully allowed you to comprehend the differences which exist in the formation of the passé composé, depending on the type of verb.
For Homework: Finish the handout we started in class on THursday, answering all the questions.
If you lost your notes about the DR MRS VANDERTRAMP verbs, look for them in your book, or just type in DR MRS VANDERTRAMP in Google.
I will NOT accept any excuses --- they are easy to find- really easy if you kept the notes we took in class in your notebook ;o) ----
THEN, in your TPG, you need to do ALL of the activities for the DEUXIEME ETAPE, which are on pages 41-43, activities 9-14. Make sure the past participles agree with the subjects for the DRMRSVANDERTRAMP and reflexive verbs.
LAstly, as I told you on FRIDAY, you will take a QUIZ on this Wednesday when you return. If you need some practice, think about doing some of the following QUIA exercises below:
Cloze: Etre verbs and others in the passé composé
Hangman: Verbs that take Etre in the past tense
Cloze: Etre verbs in the passé composé
Java Game: Vandertramp Verbs
Java Game: Allez, viens! Level 2, Chapitre 5, Deuxième ètape
Cloze: F2 GRAM passé composé
Java Game: Deuxième Étape Vocabulaire
Also, can go to www.go.hrw.com, and do the Deuxieme Etape activities for Chapter 6.

COntinue to learn the verbs from the première étape of CHapter 5, page 134, along with the verbs that have irregular past participles, from the Red GRAMMAIRE list on page 136. You must know their meaning, as well as their past participle. We will take another quiz tomorrow , you wil only be given 10 minutes to complete, and no time in the beginning of class to review. In other words, learn this stuff.
ALSO, know the terms from the COMMENT DIT-ON on page 139. Lastly, read the Grammaire Note on page 140, which reviews the rules for the formation of the passé composé we have been learning for over two weeks. APPly these rules to complete ACTIVITY 21 on page 140, writing the entire paragraph out. Remember that the past participle of the INS,OUTS, UPS, DOWNs, COMINGS and GOINGS of LIFE verbs--- MUST AGREE in GENDER and NUMBER with the subject.

MERCREDI, le 6 fevrier
Study tonight for a quiz on the premiere etape of Chapter 5. Your homework, Activities 1-4 on pages 148-`49, exercises of Grammaire Supplementaire, should help prepare you for the quiz. Don't forget that you answers must be in complete sentences!
====================================
VENDREDI, le 1er fevrier
Although I didn't assign you any specific homework for the weekend, you should be reviewing the expressions from the deuxième étape, paying particular attention to which verbs use AVOIR as the auxilary, and which ones use ETRE. It would be a good idea to do any of the following activities below to help you with putting verbs into the past tense.
Cloze: La horrible, terrible, très mauvaise journée de Paulette
http://www.cengagelearning.com.au/secondary/Lote/tapis-volant/studentbook2/Unit4/u04_grammaire_a01.html

==================================
JEUDI, le 31 janvier
We watched the video version of the Mise EN Train in class today, with subtitles, and you did a great job of interpreting/translating what was said. We then reviewed the formation of the passé composé watching a different powerpoint.
LES DEVOIRS: TPG, pages 37 and 38. 1.) You must put the last exercise on page 38 into the passé composé, joing the two clauses of the sentences with ET PUIS. 2.)You could make two sentences, starting the second sentence with the adverb------ ENSUITE! 3.)Remember that the verbs in the questions are in the INFINITIVE form, and they must be changed to the PAST PARTICIPLE. 4.)Lastly, you must decide what auxiliary verb must be used. You might need to look at the PowerPoint we did on Tuesday to help you refresh your memory about that.
==================================
MERCREDI, le 30 janvier
Handed back your Chapter Four Tests, with very detailed instructions about what to do for corrections. These must be handed in tomorrow to get credit for the perfectly done corrections. You should also be reviewing the expressions from the deuxième étape, paying particular attention to which verbs use AVOIR as the auxilary, and which ones use ETRE. It would be a good idea to do any of the following activities below to help you with putting verbs into the past tense.
Cloze: La horrible, terrible, très mauvaise journée de Paulette

Remplissez les trous avec le verbe auxiliare convenable: volant/studentbook2/Unit5/u05_grammaire_a01.html
===================================
MARDI, le 29 janvier
Continued working with the passé composé, but today we worked with the expressions that you need to learn for this étape. We defined the new verbs you must learn, identified whether the auxiliary verb they use in the passé composé is AVOIR or ETRE, then found the past participle, and then put the auxiliary and the past participle together with the subject pronoun JE, and created a sentence in the past tense.
You should have the copy of the PowerPoint presentation we used in class today, and so
your homework is to rewrite the sentences from the PowerPoint, but change them to the third person. In other words, you should use the pronoun IL, or ELLE.
Remember if you use ELLE, that if the verb you are using must use ETRE as an auxiliary, the past participle must agree in gender and number with the subject.
WHAT?!?!?
Il est tombé, mais elle est tombée . Get it, got it, Good! ANd I know, you all wish you had mad dance moves like me.
=================================
LUNDI, le 28 janvier

WOrked on the adverb handout together in class, which you must complete--- including the 10 translations at the bottom of the second page. sO, WE looked at a bunch of pictures of stores in France, how they look from the outside, and and on the inside. Checked the homework.
For tonight you will do the Grammaire Supplementaire exercises on page 82. For exercise one, you have to replace the underlined words with the pronoun EN. Remember, en either goes in front of the conjugated verb, or if there is an infinitive in the sentence, it goes in front of the infinitive.
Translation of the directions for activity two: A canadian student who lives with one of your friends is going shopping. Your friend is writing a note to tell him what he must buy. Rewrite his little note. To avoid being repetitive, use the pronous EN when it is possible.
Remember en replaces expressions with de, du, des, de la plus a THING.
============================================
