1. What is an "urban theme" in hip hop music exactly?

2. Why do hip hop artist write about where they come from in the lyrics of their songs?

While researching my topic of "urban themes" in hip hop music", I came to realize that when hip hop artist “rep”(represent) where they were born and raised or came from, its just that they want to let their listeners know that even though they may rap about guns, sex, money and drugs, they are not all about that.  There is much more to them, than how they present themselves to the publics ears.  Even though many of today’s hip hop artist do rap about guns, sex, money, and drugs, its only because while growing up in their hometown, that was the first thing they heard or saw when they woke up and the last thing they heard when they went to sleep at night.  Take Nas for instance his current single that he has out “got urself a gun”, does in deed talk about guns but, he’s does call out his “Q.B” (which stands for Queens Bridge, New York; where he is from), and lets the listeners know that its doesn’t stand for quarter back.
Over time many songs have been made that tell about where hip hop artist grew up and came from such as "south bronx" and the "bridge is over" writen by KRS-one.  He is one hip hop artist that I feel "reps" about the bronx to the fullest, no other artist out there could top him in doing so.  Other songs that thalk about where they come from are: "midwest swing" writen by nelly and the st. lunatics, because that is where they come from; "M.A.R.C.Y" by Memphis Bleek and Geda K, because the Marcy projects is where they grew up in and without a doubt will never live down.  All the hip hop artist out there today have not only once made a song about where they live at but if they are successful enough to have a next album they talk about where they are from on that cd aswell.  Some artist even remake their past songs, to add a fresher beat and even other artist from that area to collaborate on the song with them.
Also while i was researching my topic, it came to me that and urban theme is just the city where someone came from or is living and how they have lived through it.
I really learned alot more about this topic and realized that it doesnt matter where a person come from its how they person really is when you sit down and talk with them is, who you are really gettin to know.  Don't just judge a book by it cover, its not nice. Hip hop artist arent as bad as they seem its only that they come off you the public like that. Their place where they came from is just a  part of them like a freckle you wouldnt judge a person by a freckle on ur face so dont do it to the hip hop artist who re just trying to make it in todays society, where black people are seen as lazy no good people. Just stop the hatin'!
