Continuing the update ...

Friday Confusion Traditionally, the first day the exchange students are here, things are confusing. Everyone gathers around the cafeteria, or my classroom, not sure what to do next. This year will be even more confusing since I will not be in school that day. (I am attending a conference from Thursday evening until Saturday afternoon - but I will be here for the dance.) Between now and then I will try to make things less confusing. But, even with the most carefully made plans, things can change.

For the students at Girard, things will probably be smoother with only three students plus Madame Dandonneau. Just take your kids to school, and go through your normal day, unless you have something else in mind. That will be completely up to you.

For the students at Fairview, take your kids to school. I'd say take them straight to homeroom, but there's a good chance that they will all want to chat with each other in the cafeteria or in the hallway. That's fine, but do your best to get them and yourselves to homeroom on time. It might be a good idea to let them know that you need to be in HR by 7:30. I will ask Mme Bouvier to remind them of that, too.

When HR ends, please take them to Mrs. Schoeller's room for the Andy Warhol presentation. You will pick them up after first period. Does anyone know if there is a pep assembly that day? If so, don't forget to go get them!! (I'll double check on that and let you know.)

After that, you simply go through your normal schedule with your guest. As the days pass, there will probably be a lot of changing around - people going with a different host to see different classes; times where they go to the library for their work (see "Their Work" below), or maybe even Cholet students at FHS spending a day at GHS and vice-versa. This is (sort of) the first time we've been in two schools. (In 1997, Coach Terry Thompson hosted. While teaching at Garwood, he had daughters at GHS, so Cholet students have been there before.) So it's hard to say how this will unfold. But for the first day at least, let's see if we everyone with their hosts.

Friday Night Don't forget about the Girard vs. Fairview football game (funny how that worked out) followed by the dance afterwards. Admission is $2.00 (free for the Cholet kids). We'd like you all to be there. And bring friends! As with all dances, students not from FHS will need to sign up in advance. We're checking to see if that will be necessary for the Girard kids if there are GHS chaperone. We will need parents to help chaperone. In the summer some of you said your parents may be available. Please double check and get back to me. We'd hate to have to cancel due to lack of chaperones. But we will.

Their Schoolwork While they are here, the Cholet kids do have homework. In addition to their regular work, they also have reports on the exchange, the different sights they visit, and more. There will be days where they need to spend time in the library, cafeteria, or my classroom to get work done. It gets confusing, but we need to be flexible.

Monday, Oct. 23 This day will be much easier for you. Just bring them to FHS at the regular time (Girard students, be sure to drop them off at FHS in time to get yourselves to school in time). We should be back at around 10:30 that night. The phone chain will be in effect.

Thanksgiving Dinner October 29 The Symes inform me that on Sunday, October 29, there will be a "Pot Luck Thanksgiving Dinner" at their house. It will start around 4:00 and all are invited. Please RSVP at 838-8525.

Cedar Point A group of students is planning a trip to Cedar Point on Saturday, October 21. If you are interested in joining that group, get in touch with Hilary.

Phone Chain A revised copy of the phone chain was attached to this e-mail. If you could not open it, or if you see any mistakes, please let me know.

That's all for now. As we progress through the exchange, I'll try to keep you all up to date on everything. Let me know if you have any questions.
