Mode Project

Our class has become a German fashion company.  We will design, advertise, and present the trendiest, most “übercool” line of fashion and accessories our school has ever seen.  Mach mit!

We will work in teams of specialists to accomplish the following tasks:

- Design “original” fashions for teens
- Create a magazine cover featuring our fashions
- Make a commercial advertising our line of clothes
- Film a fashion show presenting our fashions

Designers will develop our line by collecting ideas, drawing and labeling outfits, and gathering items to complete the ensembles.

Magazine editors will get pictures together, coordinate and edit the written texts, and determine the layout for our magazine cover.

Writers will compose assigned texts for magazine covers, commercials, and fashion show announcers.

Cast will work as actors in commercials, narrators for the fashion show, or models on the runway.

The main focus of this project is for you develop a fashion line and to use German while planning and presenting your clothing and accessory items.

Phase I

Learn vocabulary and phrases you will need when planning in teams of specialists.  Review these expressions when you do your speaking practice each night.

Phase II

Work with your team or do other activities that help you learn and practice vocabulary for this unit.  Not all students or teams will be working on their assigned jobs at the same time.  During this work time, we will all speak GERMAN.

Phase III

We will pull together all the pieces of our work with our teams.  Word processing, assembling of collected fashion items, and film editing will occur at this point.

Phase IV

Presentation of our work.  We may want to invite other foreign language classes to view our production☺

1.  Go over expressions that will be useful for planning, developing and presenting.
2.  Fill out job application
3.  Brainstorm some ideas
4.  Discuss homework assignment
Homework:  Look around your house to see if you have any items that could be used as part of our fashion line.  They can be articles of clothing, accessories, or odds and ends to add to clothing or accessories.  Be prepared to say and describe what these items are.  We will have a few minutes at the beginning of the next class to go over the German words for things that might not be in your notes.  Each student must be able to name at least one item with a brief description of what it looks like to get homework credit.  You may use written notes.  Note:  Once the items are brought to school, we will store them here until photos and filming are completed (about three weeks) DUE next class session.
Optional:  Bring clothing catalogs from home.

2.Tag – 28. & 29. November:
1.  Review expressions from our notes
2.  Receive job assignments
3.  Go over additional words needed to explain what you can bring from home
From this point on, all project planning idea sharing will be done in German
4.  Tell designers what item(s) you can bring from home.  Designers take notes.
Homework:  Illustrated outfit cards + description cards – On two cards put pictures of outfits. These can be drawn, cut from magazines, or clip art.  On other two cards write descriptions of outfits in German that include names of clothing items, colors, and other descriptive words.  Writing must be very neat or word processed.  Use blank cards you will be given in class. DUE next class session.

3. Tag – 30. November & 3. December
1.  Designers meet to discuss ideas for 4 outfits – two for boys, two for girls.
2.  Staff writers create a list of descriptive words that can be used to describe possible outfits.  Use the FMS Online dictionary as the source for words.
