When the Dean of Arts and Sciences welcomed us to the 7th annual HIGH SCHOOL German Day at the University of Alabama...I think I detected some nervousness in our group. We were, afterall, just one of two middle schools in attendance. The magnate school, Baldwin Arts and Academics of Montgomery, has been bringing students to this event for several years. For our first time, and in competition with high school level one students from schools like: VHHS, Grissom, Jeff.Co. International Baccalaureate Program, Cullman, Oak Mountain, etc. we were very pleased with our results. Before I list the individual awards, I would like to thank all my students for their participation and for conducting themselves in such a positive way. You all contributed toward establishing an excellent reputation for Pizitz MIDDLE SCHOOL at upcoming HIGH SCHOOL German Day competitions. I am so very proud of each and every one of you! And now to those students receiving awards: 1. Extemporaneous Speaking: 3rd place, Brett Hawk 2. Extemporaneous Speaking: 2nd place, Andy McFarland 3. All 40 kids participated in at least two events. Our wonderful chaperone-parents were so helpful and supportive, providing close supervision to the children in their charge. We couldn't have done it without them! DANKE SCHÖN! We had a great day...lots of fun with our friends and with German!
