Welcome to 7th Grade Language Arts!

We are having a great year! We are now finishing up our unit on Inference; the test is this Thursday. We will begin a new unit on Author's Purpose on Friday. Be ready to learn a lot in a short amount of time! We'll learn about the different types of author's purpose, different types of text, and character wheels.

I'm so proud of the progress you all are making in Ah-ha and grammar. We will begin Unit 11 in Ahha this week. Remember, tests are every Wednesday! Don't forget to complete your Ah-ha activity packets and a wordsplash this week! In grammar, we are learning all about pronouns and how to properly use commas.

Parents, please encourage your students to make time to read each and every day. 100% of their AR goal is due Friday, December 12th. Please refer to my classroom procedures given at the beginning of the year if you have questions regarding AR. Remember that it counts for 10% of your child's final grade in Language Arts and will determine eligibility for field trips. Our next field trip is a trip to the movies on Thursday, December 18th. Reading is important to your child's learning, and time is given each day at school to read. Maximize that time! I have sent a note home with students who have not met the 50% deadline.

Parents, I've also made a big announcement regarding AR! If all of the students on our team reach 100% of their AR goal, I will EAT A MADAGASCAR HISSING COCKROACH!!!! It is true! Is our team up for the challenge????

Other important dates to remember: December 9, Chorus Concert; December 11, Orchestra Concert; December 12, 100% of AR due; December 18, Reward Field Trip; December 19, Christmas Brunch (1/2 day).

Lastly, we are collecting money for our Indian Trail angels. We would appreciate any monetary donations to make this a special holiday season for others. Thank you in advance for your kindness and giving!

GET TO KNOW MS. GERY...

Ms. Gery is not originally from Johnson City, but she has grown to love the area over the past few years. Her favorite color is Carolina Blue given she is a graduate of the University of North Carolina. GO TARHEELS! She enjoys reading, traveling, cooking, watching movies, and spending time with friends and family. Her family lives in North Carolina, and she loves seeing her 4 year-old niece Taylor and 2 nephews, Reece and Hayden.

Ms. Gery spent 5 weeks this summer teaching English and living life in China. She had a great experience and loves the Asian culture. Additionally, she was able to hike the Great Wall of China and see some of the Olympic stadiums. Ask her questions! She loves to talk about life there!

During her evenings and weekends, Ms. Gery and her boyfriend James love to spend time with college students in the area. They are very involved in the ministry of The Well and love to serve and lead students together.
