Welcome to Anne and Virginia's page about Gloria Estefan.
Gloria Fajardo was born in Havana, Cuba on September 1, 1957, and left to escape Fidel Castro's cruel ways at age 1. She moved to Miami, Florida where she grew up. In 1975, Gloria and her cousin Merci Murciano auditioned for the Miami Latin Boys, which was later rechristened Miami Sound Machine. Four years later, the band's keyboardist, Emilio Estefan and Gloria Fajardo were married. But before then, Gloria didn't always want to be a singer, she actually thought about being a psychologist.
On March 20, 1990, after a career had bloomed, during a tour, her bus was struck by a tractor-trailer, resulting in a broken vertabrae and a year off the road. The bright side was her single, "Coming Out Of The Dark", which was inspired by her near fatal accident, topping the charts.
