Mrs. Ackerman and Mrs. Sumner's summer school class of 2005 "Let the Games Begin" was made up of students just finishing 4th and 5th grades. The idea behind this class was to have students use the spelling and vocabulary words from our Open Court Reading series and create learning activities for Grades 2-5. They worked very hard to create this new and exciting way to learn spelling and vocabulary. In the process, they improved their keyboarding skills, learned to use Excel, learned how to work with split screens, learned to blog, learning to improve writing skills, and improved their own spelling and vocabulary just through working with the words. They also learned to work as a team and work independently. They kept their teachers busy getting new lists ready for them! Oh, and they learned to play fun games they found on another school's summer school class. These students used their keyboarding skills to type spelling words and sentences into excel files. In some cases they were able to import these files into Quia to create games. For other games they cut and paste the information. They also were able to use these same lists to create other games. Students and teachers enjoyed creating the games for others to enjoy. We tried very hard not to make errors, but if you catch any, please email us. Thank you. We hope you have fun learning!
