Gr7Syllabus
Life Science Curriculum Content
Seventh grade life science is an
overview of a variety of topics including experimental design, cells,
living things, basic needs of organisms, classification of organisms,
photosynthesis, ecosystems, interractions among members of a population
and in biological communities, and how organisms adapt and change over
time. We will do a variety of hands-on activities including lab
experiments. Please refer to the County Essentials of the Curriculum
Cards and the Virginia SOLs for more detailed information.
Academic Expectations
Grades in this course will be
based on homework grades, classwork, organization, quizzes, tests and
occasional projects. Nine weeks grades will be calculated by dividing
the total points a student earns by the total points possible for the
grading period.
Homework
Expectations
Homework
will not be accepted late without a "Late Homework Pass". Homework will
be assigned each class and is due the next class. Points are
accumulated for each homework assignment during the 9-week period.
Missing a homework assignment means missing a chance to learn.
Completing homework on time will often raise a grade.
Not doing homework will definitely lower your grade. Do your homework -
it'll do you good! Of course, you may always see me during lunch or
after school for help.
Technology Expectations
Computer usage will be assigned
under the direction of the teacher. Students are expected to use
computers in an appropriate manner following the guidelines provided in
the Student Code of Conduct.
Laboratory Expectations
A signed and returned "Safety
Contract" is required before full participation in labs is allowed.
Additionally, students must pass a lab safety test and sign and follow
safety guidelines in class. Experimentation and discovery are important
in science. Be observant, practice safety,
and think creatively!
K12 Planet
Please
check K-12 Planet and discuss any missed assignments, quizzes, and
tests with your child. Forms to request access to K-12 Planet are
available
in the school library.
Absences from Class
Please encourage students to get
make-up
assignments in to me and to make arrangements to complete missing
quizzes and tests while the material is still fresh in their minds.
Students, do not fall behind...
If YOU are absent, it is YOUR
responsibility to make up missed work. Missed assignments have a
terrible impact on your overall grade!
Tutoring
I offer science tutoring after school on Mondays from 3:20 to 4:30. If you would like your child to participate, please contact me. I also make myself available to students during lunch and most afternoons should you or your child need to see me.

Parents,
thank you for the delightful students you send to me each day. They are
a
great group and I know they can all do well in science this year. Thank
you also for helping them study, organize, and stay on task.
