The fifth grade class at James River Elementary School in Williamsburg, Virginia, an International Baccalaureate World School, is researching a topic for the Primary Years Program Exhibition: Preserving our Local Community History. Students will be researching the history of the Grove area from the 1600’s to present day. The exhibition will allow students to showcase their use of research skills, social skills, communication skills, and self-management skills while working on a project to preserve the history of the community for future generations. Some of the area’s historical sites include Martin’s Hundred, Carter’s Grove, Wolstenholme Towne, and the Grove community. They will be conducting interviews with community members, families, friends, and Colonial Williamsburg specialists on the history of the area. Students will be working in teams to prepare products such as a documentary, a narrated slide show, a photograph gallery, and scrapbooks for the exhibition finale at the beginning of June, 2007.
