Dear Students and Parents/Guardians:

The school year started and I trust every one, as I did, got a good head start.

Learning a language is a very exciting, long journey. It opens many doors, enriches your personality, and allows you to go places (literally and figuratively) you might never have dreamed of before. In order to get there, though, you need to work hard, to participate in class, to complete your daily assignments and, above all, to bring a nice positive attitude to class.

Participation and effort
In-class participation and effort is essential for you to gain an understanding of the subject material. It is important to help somebody else in the class if you feel you know the material. A good positive attitude is a skill you'll transfer onto any situation in your life. It's good for languages, and it is good for you too.

Quizzes, tests, papers, and projects
These will be given periodically, generally after each academic unit. Most of them will be announced. However, there will be some pop quizzes from time to time. This is where it shows if you have done your homework assignments regularly.
Tests and final exams will each account for 30% of your grade; quizzes, projects, and papers for 20%.

Homework assignments
They will be given almost daily. They are a good way for you to review what we studied in class. As a 7th grader, you are expected to complete it all in order to come prepared for your next class.
Homework will be graded based upon a check system and will make up to 10% of your final grade each quarter.

V+ Excellent work, handed in on time, neat, complete and shows your best effort
V Satisfactory work, meets requirements
V- Unsatisfactory work, late, messy or incomplete

You can always improve a lesser grade. It is your responsibility, however, to redo the missing assignments. I will not beg for it.

A letter grade

A 90-100
B 80-90
C 70-80
D 60-70
F 59-0

Material needed
For each class, you should have the following items with you: pen and pencil, covered language textbook and workbook, notebook or binder with a separate section for foreign language, agenda, completed homework and a big smile.

This is going to be a wonderful year. 7th graders learn a lot, both academically and socially. Let's set goals for ourselves and start the year off positively in a wonderful way.
