Aloha! Modern Hawaiian History is an exciting and fun course. The only problem is that we only have one semester to explore many issues. Staying organized and prepared will help to expand your knowledge of Hawai‘i's past, present, and future. The following is a short outline/guideline of what to expect in the next weeks. We will be discussing current issues through local newspaper articles weekly. We will do investigative projects that include researching personal genealogies and the social and cultural make up of Hawai‘i. We will create interesting presentations based on our research of economic losses and gains throughout the history of Hawai‘i. We will investigate possible solutions to various obsticles that may threaten Hawai‘i's indigenous people as well as established cultures. We will learn to use our language to reveal the value and richness it holds in the perpetuation of the Hawaiian culture. We will also try to make time for at least one field trip per semester. There is so much to do in so little time! Just remember that staying interested and getting involved are valuable attributes for life long experiences and learning.
