Geometry - Fourth Period

Welcome to my Spring Block Geometry Class. I feel that everyone who is willing to work hard can pass Geometry, but you have to do the work. While some students can pass without working, most who do not work will end up wasting their opportunity to learn and might have to repeat the course. Our SOL test is in the December or January time frame.

Block courses move quickly, so do not fall behind -- seek help from your instructor if things don't make sense. In order to maximize instruction time, quizzes and tests will be done on two chapters at a time. Lessons will be combined to maximize practice time.

Geometry is a course that puts together a lot of material previously introduced in grade school math and algebra. A part of Geometry is learning new words, so keep up on your vocabulary. Another part of Geometry is solving very basic algebra problems, so if your algebra skills are weak the you need to see me to get some extra work to improve those skills. Another part of Geometry is logic and with it many SOL questions become a choice between only 2 answers instead of 4.

Class needs: You will need a three-ring binder, notebook paper and pencils or pens for every class. Normally, I would supply student notes, handouts, quizzes and tests that you will need to keep in your three-ring binder, however, this year, at least to start, everything will be on-line. You will enhance your class experience if you can take advantage of the tremendous on-line materials the publisher has provided and the Khan Academy videos and Virtual nerd videos that tie into our lessons. These links can be found in the student notes file for each chapter.

If you are having trouble, come in and see me. Don't fall behind.

COVID-19 School Virtual Schedule to start the year

During this extraordinary event, please use your computer, phones or chromebook to monitor these pages. This page has all of the material that we use in class: student notes, student lessons (gone over with the projector) and all assignments I hand out in class.

Our Google Classroom page will have this same material and will have all the assignments on it. The Classroom code is just below. Students will need to use our Google classroom page to do the assignments at home and then upload them through Classroom so I can get their work. All reading material is on this page and in our Google classroom, including links to our textbook. Please use the on-line PDF student note files to search for keywords to do the assignments and follow the lessons I would have presented in class through the projector, but will be presenting through Google Meet videos.

All students can do SOL Gateways to improve their scores. Please do not retake a chapter Gateway until one has been reloaded with a later date than the previous one you took (otherwise, you are just retaking the same test over again).
