ASSIGNMENT: Chemistry is the study of matter and energy! Explore the links posted here to learn how to interpret the Periodic Table. Congratulations! Bill Nye has just hired your team to produce a brief video explaining one of the Groups/Families of the Periodic Table of Elements. This week you will learn what the elements in a Group/Family of the Periodic Table have in common. The video requirements are simple. The Periodic Table "ad" must include three details: 1. Name the Group/Family and tell which column of the Periodic Table it is in. For example: "This broadcast of the Channel 1 News is brought to you by the Alkali Metal family found in Column 1 of the Periodic Table of the Elements." 2. Tell the audience why the elements in this column of the Periodic Table are considered to be a Group/Family: "The elements of [this Group/Family] share [whatever properties they share]." 3. Choose one element in the Periodic Table column your group has researched. Name an object or some material that contains this element or name a use of the pure element. Explain how it is used, and why the viewers need it! No fictitious stuff for sale here, please. Truth in advertising is important to your broadcast success! ASSIGNED TOPICS Team 1: Alkali Metals, COLUMN 1 Team 2: Alkaline Earth Metals COLUMN 2 Team 3: Transition Metals COLUMN 3 - 12 Team 4: Metalloids (found in the zig zag pattern) Team 5: Halogen Gases COLUMN 17 Team 6: Inert Gases (Noble Gases) COLUMN 18 Team 7: Metals found in any column Use these links to learn about the column you've been assigned.
