THE THREE LITTLE PIGS: Students will compare and contrast versions of this popular children's book. They will create their own "big book" version.
AUTHORS: Students will study some famous authors and become one as they develop their own tall tale.
GIFTS: From an advanced learner curriculum, this unit allows students to explore the concepts of value and worth as they discover sentimental, personal, historical, and symbolic gifts in the world around them.
CROSSING THE LAND TO FREEDOM: In this interdisciplinary unit that uses literature and reading activities, students will learn how slaves lived and found freedom. In addition, we will be reading the novel, Sounder.
DETECTIVE SCIENCE: Students will become forsenic scientists as they learn about evidence and then process a "crime scene" in the classroom.
CIVIL RIGHTS: Students will create a timeline depicting the fight for civil rights from slavery to the present time. Literature, history, and technology will be integrated into this unit.
