Theme: Feelings

God said, “Let there be light”.  Genesis 1:3  How appropriate for this to be our bible verse for the week.  We hope and pray for sunlight during this threat of the hurricane.  We pray for the safety of all of our families and friends.  God Bless & Be Safe!!!!!!!!!!!!

**On Friday, September 5th, Kindergarten will celebrate Grandparents Day!!  We are inviting all grandparents to join us for a short program in the gym at 1:30 p.m.  We will send home invitations this week inviting all grandparents to this celebration.  If a grandparent cannot attend, please arrange for an aunt, uncle, godparent, neighbor, etc. to come in their place.
THANKS SO MUCH!

Weekly Schedule:
Reading:  We will read the book Jazz Baby.  The children will be listening to, responding to, and retelling the story.  They will also be identifying the letters Tt - Zz, rhyming words, positional words,  and reading the high-frequency words I & can.

Social Living:  We will be discussing feelings this week.  We will create "feeling faces" with paper plates to share with our friends, make a book by cutting out magazine pictures of different expressions, and play charades by acting out different feelings.  Also, we will discuss the importance of sharing your feelings with others.  We have a FEELING that it will be a great week!

Handwriting:  We are enjoying our new handwriting series because it is teaching the basics.  We are reviewing and teaching basic concepts/skills for good handwriting.  This week, we will focus on the starting and stopping points.  We will use green dots and red dots to reinforce the concepts.  Green means GO and red means STOP!

Religion:  We are working on memorizing bible verses this year.  We will learn God said, “Let there be light” from Genesis.  The children will learn that God made the sun, moon, and the stars.  We will sing songs, have discussions, and complete activities to help us understand these concepts.

Math:   WOW!!!!!!  Our math vocabulary word readers are AWESOME!  Our children are doing a great job reading and using the math vocabulary words.  This week, we will focus on top, middle, bottom, left, right, same, and different.  We have fun activities planned to reinforce these concepts.

Language/Early Literacy:  We will be reading various books about feelings.  We will use feelings to teach the skill of identifying opposites.  Also, we will do a Power Lesson on book handling.   We will recognize the cover and title of a book, and how print is read from left to right.

Important Information:
1. Great Job!  Most of our children know their cafeteria number.  Please
continue to practice the cafeteria number nightly.
2. Our Grandparents celebration is this Friday @ 1:30 in the gym.  We are looking forward to this special time together.
