We will create an Advent paper link chain to count down until Jesus’ birth, color an advent calendar, and color an Advent wreath to share with our families at home. We will read My Father's Angels and create a choir of angels for our classroom. Also, we will discuss the symbolism of the lamb to Jesus. We will decorate a lamb and share the important facts about Jesus - the Lamb of God. Handwriting: We will be writing capital and lowercase Pp. The stroke description for capital for P is: “pull down straight, lift, slide right, curve forward right, slide left.” The stroke description for lowercase p is: “pull down straight, push up, circle forward right all the way around.” The stroke descriptions really help out! Continue to use them as you are helping your child do homework. Math: We are continuing our number sense skills!! We will recognize and write the numerals that describe the quantities 11 through 20. We will continue to work with our ten-frame mats and counters. The double ten-frame will be also be introduced. The children are really working hard on these concepts!! Religion: We will begin the week off by learning that friends are a special gift from God. We’ll identify ways that friends help us to discover God’s world. Our bible verse for this week is: “Let everything that has breath give praise to the Lord!” We’ll learn that three more saints - Saint Therese, Saint Martin de Porres, and Saint Frances of Rome were friends of God because they cared for the hungry and sick. Beginning Wednesday, the children will understand that Advent is a time of preparing for the birth of Jesus. We will explore different Advent customs such as the Advent Wreath, lighting the candles, and trying to do a good deed for each day. Our children will pull a star from our Promise Tree daily. Each star has a different Bible verse on it that we will read and discuss in class.
