Theme: Memories and Goodbyes
May - 12-21, 2008
What we are learning:
Phonics: In whole group, the children will be writing dictated blends, special sounds, and words. The special sound “igh” will be introduced this week. They will continue to circle special sounds, mark vowels, and read words that are written on the board. We will be sending home a list of all the special sounds and their clue words that were learned this year so that they can be reviewed during the summer. We will also be sending home Phonics readers and workbooks. These should be used this summer to continue to practice reading for first grade.
Handwriting: The children will be writing Aa- Zz and the numbers 1-31 for testing.
THERE WILL BE NO SPELLING WORDS THIS WEEK.
We are so proud of how well the children have done this year with spelling words. Great Job!
HOMEWORK: Continue to review all skills in study guide! Please practice speaking parts to our closing ceremony. Only a few students have a speaking part.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
· Thanks so much for attending the Mother’s Day Tea and the Dad’s Day. We enjoyed having you with us. Have you Tooty Ta’d lately?
· We will be taking time this week to practice for closing ceremony and test for report cards. Please make an effort to have your child at school next week. We realize certain things cannot be avoided and appreciate you always having your children here.
· We will be testing skills in whole group, small group, and individually. Please work on skills at home. Thanks!
CLOSING CEREMONY INFORMATION:
Thursday, May 21st , 2008 at 9:00.
The children should be in their classrooms at 8:30. Please have the children dress in their Sunday best.
After you drop your child off, you should proceed to the church to find a seat.
Last but not least, we cannot believe that this is it! We would like to take this opportunity once again to say what a wonderful year it has been with your precious children. It is amazing how the LORD has made these children as varied as the flowers of a garden. We have been blessed with the joy of seeing them grow!
Thanks for everything you have done to make our year a success. WE LOVE YOU ALL!
