Week of August 25-29, 2008
REMINDERS:
1. AR signature page should be printed, signed, and returned by Friday, August 22nd.
2. Back to School Night has been rescheduled for Sept. 18th.
3. Mass will be every Wednesday at 8:15 a.m.
4. All school copies of textbooks should be covered. Please send in bookcovers ASAP.
5. No school Monday, September 1st. Labor Day holiday.
6. School picture day is September 29th.
DAILY ASSIGNMENTS:
SPELLING: Word List 2 words are number names. Study nightly and write each word three times to be turned in on Friday. Remember to write this on looseleaf paper with a complete heading format. Test Friday, Aug. 29th. Students should be able to write each word correctly. This is both a spelling and a math skill.

READING: You should be reading the story "First Day Jitters" from the CDrom and studying the vocabulary nightly. Review practice book pgs. 1-3 and 5-6 along with any maps and notes in theri reading folder. Test will be on Thursday, Aug. 28th.
Vocabulary: downstairs, nervous, fumbled, chuckled, nonsense, trudged
MATH: We are continuing with chapter 1 on Place Value. Skills covered are using ordinal
numbers, the value of a digit in a number, numbers through 100,000, equvalent forms of numbers ( standard form, expanded form, word form), and writing standard form of numbers from place value blocks, expanded form, and word form. Look for workbook pages as reinforcement. Review vocabulary nightly from folder. We will be sending a study guide home on Tuesday. Please review nightly along with any notes and maps in their math folder. The test on Chapter 1, section A will be on Friday, Aug. 29th. We will begin section B on Monday. These skills are comparing, ordering, and rounding numbers.

RELIGION: Review Hail Mary prayer nightly. Chapter 1 "Jesus Gives Us the Church" involves
Jesus' birth and early childhood. Discuss the following key words: Blessed Trinity, Incarnation, disciple, apostle, prophet, repent, and public ministry. Review all highlighting nightly. Test on Chp. 1 Thursday, Aug. 28th and oral quiz on the "Hail Mary" on Friday, Aug. 29th.
ENGLISH: We are working on writing and identifying complete sentences, identifying the 4
Kinds of Sentences, their endmarks, subjects and predicates (complete and simple) complete sentences and sentence fragments, and combining sentences. Please look for practice sheets and workbook pages to be completed as assigned. Review all notes, vocabulary, and maps in folder nightly as needed. Test will be on Wednesday, Sept. 3rd. We will have some graded activities this week for review.
KEY TERMS: Declarative sentence- statement, Imperative sentence- command, Interrogative sentence- question, Exclamatory sentence- expresses strong feeling.
SCIENCE: We are learning about plants. We will discussing the funtions, and importants
of roots, stems, and leaves. We will be growing our own plants in class. There will be a test Wed., Aug. 27th on parts of a plant, pgs. A8-A11 (lesson 1). There will also be a test Friday, Aug. 29th. on pollen & pollination pgs. A14-A17 (lesson 2). Study chp. 1 vocabulary nightly.
