Welcome to Biology!!!!!

I hope you find this webpage useful. You will find a weekly plan for each class. Assignments and class notes will be available on my moodle web page. Please feel free to email me if there is any additional information that you may need.

Course Description:

In biology, students observe and analyze the chracteristic properties of living organisms, including becoming familiar with homeostatic functions, exploring cellular structure and function and mechanisms of transport within cells, classifying organisms, and surveying the kingdoms of living organisms. Students utilize critical thinking skills to develop a greater apprecitation of life and man's role in preserving life and the environmnet. They also analyze the cause and effect of the physical environment on the health and well-being of organisms, as well as develop skills in the application of proper laboratory techniques and safety. Components of this aspect of the course include microscopy, use of dissection instruments, and handling of laboratory chemicals and specimens.

Course Timeline:

The course of study in this class will follow the Nine-Week pacing guides created by the science teachers of the county. This pacing guide has divided the SOL objectives, to be covered for Biology, in increments of Nine-Weeks.
-The pacing guide for Biology will be posted in the classroom and is available under Secondary Resources on the Washington County Schools website (www.wcs.k12.va.us).
First Nine Weeks: Chapters 1 – 6

Second Nine Weeks: Chapters 7 – 9

Third Nine Weeks: Chapters 10 – 17
