Math: We are starting out with graphing. Please quiz your students on multiplication tables. This is REALLY important!!!!! If they do not know their multiplication facts, they will struggle all year. Reading: All students should be reading for at least 30 minutes per night. Reading should be a daily activity. Talk to your children about their books or have them real aloud to a family member. In class, students are reading novels, AR books, and the Scott Foresman reading book. On Mondays, every student will have a new list of vocabulary and spelling words for the week listed in the “Family Times”. Tests are given weekly. Your children have nightly reading assignments and projects due for the books they are currently reading. The first mini-project about the character in their novel is due Wednesday, September 10. Writing: We are going to write a newsletter this year. Hopefully we will have it on our Quia page by the middle of September. We will keep you posted. Social Studies: We are working on continents, regions of Virginia, and map skills. Science: The first two weeks of school we are discussing the Scientific Method. We will be conducting experiments using this. By September 15, we will start Living Systems which should last about eight weeks..
