Grading Rubric for Biology 2007-08 I will calculate an individual grade for each student for each quarter based on the following: Categories Tests Labs Quizzes Homework & Classwork Percentages (Weight) 40% 30% 20% 10% Tests Tests are by unit and cover approximately 2.5-3 weeks of course content. Tests are cumulative, meaning material from previous units will appear on subsequent tests. Tests may be re-taken for a higher grade if the student has: - completed all classwork and homework leading up to the test. - maintained an organized and complete notebook from which to study - asked questions in class or came in for extra help outside of class for remediation - demonstrated meaningful remediation, i.e. flashcards, verbal discussion with teacher) - note that re-test grades are limited to 70% Tests must be made up as soon as possible. It is the responsibility of the student to arrange a makeup time within the assigned timeframe. Common Assessments Students will take three common assessments given to all biology students for intradepartmental quality control and curriculum development. These will occur at the end of 1st quarter and the end of 3rd quarter and count as test grades The Midterm serves as a common assessments for the semester.
