Suggestions for PARENTS/TEACHERS…
• Always stay in close touch with your kids as they explore the Internet.
• Stick Close, especially when first beginning to use the internet in order to help students use the Internet appropriately and safely.
• Your local library should also have information about SAFETY on the web, ASK!
• Make up your family/group Online Rules…Kids need detailed direction. Put them in writing and place the RULES up by the computer somewhere they can SEE it every day.
• Remember also that no matter how “Web-literate” your child becomes, there is NO SUBSTITUTE for YOU. Check on them OFTEN. You can even REVIEW the HISTORY of the websites and pages that he or she has visited.
• If you suspect ANYTHING – write down the information in detail and REPORT it!
Suggestions for KIDS…
• If I want to type in ANY information about myself online for ANYTHING (name, address, telephone), I will ASK MY PARENTS/TEACHER – NO MATTER WHAT!
• I will only use my student E-mails, (open or respond back to) WITH MY PARENT’S/TEACHER’S permission and from people I know.
• If I receive an email that makes me uncomfortable or I think is weird, I will NOT respond and will show my parents/teacher IMMEDIATELY.
• If an “Instant Message” flashes in front of me while I am online, I will NOT respond to it. I will get my parent/teacher.
• Under NO circumstances will I give out any personal information or agree to MEET anyone that I met while online.
• If a Web site asks for my parents' email address, I will always ASK before I type anything!
• I will conduct myself CAREFULLY and CAUTIOUSLY online at ALL TIMES.
