*Main News for Mr. Behms Journalism Class* Drug News club drugs? street drugs? Written By: Mariko Weber Drug abuse is wisely used throughout High School's all over the county, mostly on weekends but for some on week days too. What harm are students putting forth to their body, do the students know what the drug really is? Can they trust who they are getting it from? The affects, are they aware? And how is it affecting their mental state during school. Most commonly used, what affects it has on the body and mind, and opinions of annonymous users and elders will be placed in this column. There are many unknown facts about what is inserted into the human body and maybe discussing them will make a difference. It all depends on the individual who reads the section, but the drive is to at least get the attention and provide information they may no be aware of. It all tends to seem okay until that one bad time, well maybe this can prevent that one bad time. Drugs news is the bases of what will be written. Mom says, “just say no” but what about Ritalin? Are doctors over prescribing Ritalin? And what is the long and short term affects? Is it by any chance being abused? For the past years or so, kids have been highly prescribed to Ritalin. This prescription drug is used for “hyper- active” kids. The question is, are these kids really hyper active? Is Ritalin harming the adolescent lives of children? And what are the effects when they child is taken off the medication, what do they turn to next? There are many questions being asked by many people, and answers are being demanded. Ritalin being a fairly new drug has been prescribed for not too many years, increasing in dosage at a fast rate. The number of people being prescribed to take Ritalin, and the amount taken by children has increased tremendously through out the past couple of years. "The problem is such little things can cause a child to be medicated." ~says adult who was put on Ritalin for more than five years when a child. This obviously is causing the increase in prescription and dosage. What many parents do not think over is what Ritalin leads to, and how overly prescribed it seems to be getting. Drugs focus on controlling the mind; Ritalin is a drug, it is a mind-altering drug. Children of a young age from many peoples knowledge are in fact supposed to have a lot of energy, and just be “kids.” Teachers and adults notice this energy that is supposed to be “controlled” and come up with the thought of disorder. Whether or not noticing, the child’s attitudes have changed. "While on the drug, they are not who they naturally could be."~says a parent strongly against Ritalin. The drug is taking effect to his or her mind, and their body is now dependant on this drug. So, as they get older and mature becoming calm and having the ability to “control” their energy, what happens? Their body is taken off the Ritalin, and onto what? There have been many cases of adults now that were led into hard use of other drugs because of Ritalin. It set their mind to be depended on an every day drug, and when they were off, there body was craving for more and there was nothing but other things. The big Motto “ just say no” is used all the time… but what about Ritalin. Both legal and illegal drugs seem to be a problem these days with many problems to follow. Many do not realize the issues that lay right before their eyes and are not willing to research into it, in fear of the truth. According to the DEA Ritalin is a schedule A drug, the same as cocaine. How can we give a drug such as this to millions of young children, some less than five for a “disease” which is very difficult to diagnose. This problem is bringing up many issues, and the best conclusion yet, seems to be that drugs should not be the first, but the last resort. The problem is that the emphasis has to change, and instead of looking for a drug to cure the young as well as the elder, look for healthier more natural ways to heal. This will illuminate and decrease not only legal but illegal drug problems through out the United States. Another question is, is there a likely hood of abusing such drugs, or having problems later in life because of earlier medications. Well, one factor is if the society is tolerant and easily uses drugs like Valium and prosaic with great frequency then this attitude carries over and makes it easier to access illegal drugs. Prescription drug addicts are a large problem in this area. There are really no real answers to the question, why. In conclusion Ritalin denies the childhood which is controlled by the subconscious mind, which should be a time to experience dreams and fantasy, which all is healthy. And many do not realize this fact, and that the factor of it all is very important to children and their lives as they grow up and mature into adults. Everything that happens and is or done in their youth shapes what they become, and parents, teachers, and physicians should be more aware what is affecting this. *High school womans sports* SPORTS Weekly Sport- teams played *from which school *ranked.....
