Discussions for IT Project Management
While project management is not the most exciting material you will study throughout the course, it is very important. Without project management you will easily lose track of deadlines for completion and cost for the project and easily lose track of where you are in a project. Project management plays a role in all aspects of web design, management and even hosting. With proper project management you will be able to complete projects efficiently and have satisfied customers that will return with future projects for you to complete. Consider the following as you work through this lesson and prepare to discuss in class:
1) What are some project management skills?
2) What are five project management phases?
3) Why do you think documentation and communication during project management are important?
4) Can you give any examples of some good projects that you have witnessed or been a part of that were a success because of good project management or were a failure due to poor project management?
Project Management: Your Turn
You will need to divide up into teams for this activity. Use your text material and the Internet to research and prepare to discuss the following:
Computer Upgrade. Your team has been asked to upgrade the computers in your classroom for working with the CIW courses. Your team will need to go through the steps of project management to develop the plan and go through the steps to implement the computer upgrade. Use the steps you studied in this lesson as a guide to develop your plan. Develop a Gnatt chart that outlines your timeline for the phases of the project. Who should be involved? What tasks do you need to consider for the project? What considerations will you need to take into account?
