We see advertising all around us. Do you understand the advertising that you see? What are the different kinds of advertising that you know? There are commercials on tv, commercials on radio, billboards (signs on the street), papers that people give to you on the street, and advertising in newspapers and magazines. Can you think of other kinds of advertising? What are some things that are advertised on billboards? Are cigarettes advertised ? Are clothes advertised? Do you think that some things shouldn't be advertised?
Today let's talk about billboards. First, look at some old billboards. Find a billboard and copy the picture. Paste it into Microsoft Word and then write a sentence to go with it. Show your billboard to your teacher and then to another person. Do you think companies should advertise things that aren't healthy? There is a group that changes billboards that they don't like. Find a billboard and change the words. There are many new ways to advertise. Read about some of them. Read about 2 very famous billboard projects, "Got Milk" and Burma Shave. Who are some of the famous people in the "Got Milk billboards? Pick out one Burma Shave poem that you understand, and one that you don't understand. Copy write them in your Microsoft Word page and show the one that you understand to another person and the one you don't understand to your teacher.
