‚¢‚¯‚Î‚È About Ikebana Ikebana is a Japanese art form with flowers used for the design and materials. This particular type of flower arranging brings nature and humanity together in a display of living things. The main goal of ikebana is to achieve closeness with nature. The materials of ikebana include grasses, leaves, blossoms/flowers, and branches arranged according to particular rules depending on which type of ikebana you practice, as there are many. Ikebana is a difficult art form practiced by both women and men. Although ikebana is challenging with proper understanding of techniques first time arrangers can make spectacular visual combinations. Styles of Ikebana There are many styles of ikebana which have different techniques and characteristics. ‚à‚è‚à‚Ì Morimono Is a style of ikebana which used greens, flowers and figurines to illustrate nature. You can show a garden or temple with your arrangement. ‚à‚è‚Î‚È Moribana This style of ikebana is arranged in a container with a wide opening, but is low and shallow.
‚è‚Á‚© Rikka Rikka is also known as heika. This form uses tall vases and emphasizes vertical lines. ‚µ‚å‚© ‚¹‚¢‚© Shoka or Seika This style is similar to the rikka style, but has less strict rules. The characteristics are a small bundle of branches shaped in an asymmetrical triangular shape. ‚È‚°‚¢‚ê Nageire Traditionally arranger would throw in various branches and flowers into a tall vase and their arrangement would be finished as nageire means to throw in. More recently this form has become more structured. Ikebana and Seasons The materials and the colour of the materials used in ikebana often change depending on the seasons.Ikebana expresses a closeness with nature so as the colours and textures outside change the Japanese believe so should the colours and textures of this art form. ‰Ä Summer During summer you will find bright colours and a vast assortment of arrangements done with the water aspect. Big, beautiful vibrant flowers are used with intense greens. H Fall Fall time ikebana arrangements have small dark coloured flowers that cover entire branches. Fall time uses little greens and some curled willow and wheat-like grasses to get the seasons effect. “~ Winter Winter arrangements have large branches, pale flowers, and subtle greens. ‚Î‚Ë Spring Ikebana arrangements for this season have some branches, bright or pale flowers and little greens. The spring arrangements have the most flexiblity when using materials. Summary In my opinion, ikebana is a beautiful art form that adds beauty to rooms or exhibits and also contributes a sense of harmony with nature when you fully perfect the techniques. Although challenging at first ikebana becomes second nature and as your technique enhances so does your creative ideas to new forms, styles and techniques.
