Week of August 20-24
Monday: We will begin discussing our unit on chemistry. Read pages 175-179 in your text. The students will then define terms for the chapter (1-18).
Tuesday: We will start talking about the periodic table and atomic structure. We will view a short video on the periodic table and its grouping and classification.
Refer to pp. 176-177 in text. I will be taking up the S.O.S. (focus) assignments since the 1st day of school. There should be 5 of these in your notebook. Students will be required to memorize the first 20 chemical symbols of the periodic table PLUS several more important symbols. These will be assigned in class.
Wednesday: We will continue our study of the periodic table and complete a worksheet using pp. 176-177 as a reference. The answers to the questions on the worksheet
are found in the captions and readings surrounding the diagram of the periodic table. The worksheet will need to be completed for homework.
Thursday: We will check and discuss the answers to the worksheet questions in class. Then, the worksheets will be handed in to be graded. We will begin discussing the atomic structure of elements from the periodic table and how to identify the number of subatomic particles from the data given in the periodic table.
Friday: We will practice diagramming models of atoms in class, using the periodic table as a reference to determine the number of subatomic particles in each element.
